Hands Off Our Bodies, etc.

Hi,

The decision that came down from the Supreme Court of the United States today gave me lots of feelings. At first, I was just going to tuck myself into a ball, cuddle with my cat, listen to an audiobook, and sign out of Instagram in effort not to think about it. But fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, my brain would not stop churning. So I decided to write an open letter. Here it is:

Dear SCOTUS,

Lol wow. Quite the decision you made today.
I just want to touch on a couple topics, so we know we’re all on the same page and understand exactly what has been done today.

Please do not be so close-minded as to think that only foolish teens and women enraptured with the promise of never-ending sunsets with the most recent or their conquests are the ones looking for abortions.

There are women whose pregnancies are not viable. They’re supposed to carry the pregnancy to term?
What about women who’ve been raped?
What about sexual assault victims?
What about spousal rape?
What about incest?
What if the condom broke?
What if birth control fails?
What about a miscarriage? You want a woman to just hold the miscarried baby until what, a surgery can take place?
What if the baby was at risk to the point where the pregnancy could not be salvaged?
What if none of these things and you just are not ready for a baby at this junction in your life?
You do not and should not need a socially acceptable “reason” to get an abortion. Abortions are part of women’s health. Whether you like it or not.

And why people who do not, nor will they ever, own a uterus are consistently trying to govern how those of us that do have one is beyond me. Leave my reproductive organs and what I choose to do with them alone.

You have to realize that blocking abortion access and allowing states to regulate it themselves as opposed to giving federal guarantees means that women will not STOP getting abortions. You know that, right? All this means, in essence, dumbed down to a pea of a point, is that more women will die trying to get an abortion. Specifically, more women of color. It affects us more. It always affects us more.

Why are you so pressed for someone to have a child, when they know good and well that they shouldn’t be for whatever reason, at that point in their lives? Why aren’t you equally as concerned with the quality of life for that same child once they’re actually born? Such a disparity in care should tell you something. Is this just yet another power grab to dangle over women? I'm thinking YES.

Is it going to get wild in some states (looking directly at you Texas, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Georgia) expeditiously? It probably is as you read this very note.

Is this fight over? I pray not. Far from it.

Y’all think you’re slick for pulling this when in fact, you are disgusting. Shame on you for pressing the state on a woman’s body, something that has utterly nothing to do with you at all.

Sincerely,
N. Wilson

ADDENDUM:

Why in the fuck are SCOTUS appointments for life? That has confused me for years.
1. There’s no law saying there has to be ONLY 9
2. At what age do you think justices become out of touch with society and the law and just do whatever their political leanings push them towards?
3. Political leanings should have all of absolutely nothing to do with SCOTUS appointments and decisions. And yet, as we can see today, they clearly do.

Ps. Biden saying he will do “all he can” to assist in this fight to grant women access to abortions is lol because sweetheart, you got confused halfway thru your speech and just paused. Also, the President doesn’t have much power over SCOTUS decisions. Otherwise, our country would look even wilder than it already does.

In summation, all I have to say to this is: Cute.
Xx
